Media of each work: Pencil on paper.

Why you chose it:  I chose it because the characters within the drawing really caught my eye as soon as I saw it.

Some interesting factoid about the artist(s).  In ten years, he made 900 different paintings.

Artist: Okumura Masanobu

Title: Diversion and Delights form the Floating World

Pen and Ink Drawing

During the beginning stages, I thought that this project was going to be easy. However, I realized that the only reason why this project was easy was because of the grid. I am not quite sure why but the grid seemed to acts as an outline which made it easier to place certain things in certain places. I really liked using the grid and I do hope that we will get the chance to use the grid system of drawing again. As I finished the outline and began to use the ink to fill in the drawing, it became more of a challenge, not necessarily because of the ink but because of the pen being caught in the paper and then splattering out. I was being to become annoyed by this; however, I was able to get through the ink part quickly with a minimum amount of splatter as possible. Overall, I enjoyed this project and hope to do another one in the future.

Some interesting factoid about the artist(s).  No one knew where he was born and or died.

Artist: Maarten van Heemskerck

Title: Family of Pieter Jan Foppesz

Why you chose it:  This painting has a very family feeling to it.

Some interesting factoid about the artist(s).  He painted his perspective on all seven wonders of the world

Artist: Annibale Carracci

Media of each work: Unknown

Why you chose it:  To me it looks like one of those lawn gnomes of a sleeping Mexican with a sombrero. When I saw this, it made me laugh because I did not know exactly what it is

What about the reference image you can integrate:  I’m not quite sure what to think of this painting. It is confusing to me and I really cannot depict it

Some interesting factoid about the artist(s).  Born in Bologna, like baloney.

Leaf Study Drawing

Day 1

Well I first started my picture of the leaf today. I am not sure how this will turn out, I am use to drawing certain things and although I have drawn stuff like roses before I have never drawn a leaf. I think the most challenging thing for me will be shadowing. I am not sure but I guess we will find out.

Day 2

Well so far so good, I got the basic outline and sketch done and I still have to touch it up. My drop down shadow surprisingly looks good, although it is a little rough around the edges. I was kind of hoping to be done by today but it looks as though I will not finish till our final day of drawing this leaf. I was a little bit down today because I walk in and my leaf was dead! I wanted to rush it to the leaf hospital to try to save it but I guess that I will just have to adjust my drawings to my NEW leaf.

Day 3

Well I finished my drawing today and I feel good about it. I am proud of my drawing. Even though it is not my best work.

Blind Contour Activity Log

During this assignment, quite a few things were going through my head as I was blindly drawing the first three pictures. The major thing was about how crappy my pictures were going to come out. I kept looking down because of how bad I knew it was going to come out.  Eventually I was able to stop looking down after looking at my pictures and being able to laugh at them. After that I was pretty much ok with how it came out. I do not know if I would consider these certain drawings as art, I think I would rather consider them as doodles. My last one I would consider a piece of art, not that it looks super good or finished but because you can tell what it is. Overall this project was interesting, at least my pictures and everyone else’s pictures were. More so, towards the end of class I was somewhat glad just to be going to lunch.
